For me, this is exactly what makes this a great game. Carry memories into your next adventure when avoiding death in your adventure Differences from Darkest Dungeon 1ĭarkest Dungeon 2 approaches gameplay in a much different way from Darkest Dungeon 1. A successful run will unlock the next chapter, earn you a good chunk of Candles of Hope and allow you to carry a memory of your heroes into further adventures. However in my 80 hours of Darkest Dungeon 2 I found myself succeeding almost every run in which I put forth a solid party, so unlocking buffs & game knowledge will carry you a long way to facing off against some of the games hardest challenges (or achievements). Early on you’ll most likely experience failure more often then not. Ultimately, if you haven’t died yet, you’ll arrive at the “Mountain” to square off against the chapter boss, which vary from not that bad to rage inducing mechanics.Īfter each run players earn Candle of Hope which can be used to unlock a variety of items/buffs/cosmetics. This is repeated 3-4 times with breaks at an inn where players can restock, rest, and consume items before heading into the next region. This continues until the region ends in a region “boss” fight. Each path contains battles, wagon hazards, random rewards, special fights of lairs, dens or the dreaded shambler. The player then assembles their party of 4 heroes, selecting their sub-class and head off in their nifty wagon to trek through the map from point to point. GameplayĬlass System: 12 Heroes /w varying sub-classes/skills to pick from to fill multiple rolesĮach playthrough starts with selecting 1 of the 5 chapters, which are originally locked until defeating the boss of the prior chapter. Players choose their 4 heroes and embark on a rogue-lite adventure of one of the 5 chapters in game. Darkest Dungeon 2 maintains its gritty art style & stress filled combat while eschewing actual dungeons & large scale party management. Darkest Dungeon 2 is NOT Darkest Dungeon 1…and that’s what makes it such a great game.
